Boz and the Lake Monster...a Children's Book Waiting to be Written
Saw this on Nationals Journal this afternoon but I had to get a bunch of crap done before heading out of the office early today and didn't have time to post it then.
Boz is putting out a new column in tomorrow's WaPo, but here is the link now (yes, posting it at 2AM isn't really giving people a chance to read it early, is it?). At any rate, it's like Boz was in my head when he wrote this because these are the thoughts I have been having the past few weeks as days go by without a notable Nats free agent signing post Tex-gate. I'm hopeful that the Lerners will see the light and use the dry powder they kept for Tex to acquire several very good players now. Pull the trigger! It's time to buy some undervalued players in what has to be the best buyer's market in baseball in many years.
Secondly, I recently found out that the Nats' single A short season affiliate is a team called the Vermont Lake Monsters. I love watching minor league ball and am always sad I don't get to see it more often. I also love the team names they come up with. The Vermont Lake Monsters are now my new favorite. My previous favorite was probably the Albuquerque Isotopes, although there are so many awesome team names it's hard to choose.
Anyway, the Lake Monsters are in the same league as the Aberdeen Ironbirds, who play in Ripken Stadium about 45 minutes north of Baltimore. And they play in Aberdeen in mid-July...so I know what I will be doing on July 17-19. Just check out the logo:

Totally awesome. I may just splurge on a Lake Monsters t-shirt.
Getting pumped for NatsFest on Sunday!

Burlington, I think. They share Centennial Field with the University of Vermont. I was surprised that they played the Iron Birds and would come that far south, but I would bet I'll be the only one there with a Lake Monsters shirt on!
